Ahead of the 2023 holiday season, Vigo’s mayor Abel Caballero stated in his annual challenge to the mayor of New York City (Eric Adams this year), “New Yorkers will be jealous because Vigo’s lights are simply the best.” In a previous message to Bill DeBlasio, Caballero said “I want to tell the mayor of New York to get ready because he’s going to see the lights of Vigo from there.”

Every year the city comes alive with more than two million Euros worth of twinkling LED lights (11 million in 2023), live Christmas trees, and impressive holiday displays including snow machines and Christmas music adorning 450 streets in Vigo from late November through the beginning of January.

One of the highlights of Christmas in Vigo is the stunning display of lights and trees that adorn the city’s main streets and squares. From the bustling Gran Via to the picturesque Plaza de Compostela, there are endless opportunities to take in the festive sights and sounds of the holiday season.
